MY OPINION
So last night we went and saw The Eagle. It stars Channing Tatum (GI Joe, Dear John) and Jamie Bell (Nicholas Nickelby, Jumper). Before we saw it I was really really hoping it would be close to being as good as Lord of the Rings. I was proven wrong. While I wouldn't say that it was a bad movie, I also wouldn't say that it was an awesome movie either. It was good. It was an entertaining action movie full of honor and loyalty. The action was pretty decent and intense, though Tory said that some was a bit disturbing to her at times (two off screen throat slices and a severed head, also done off screen). However, I didn't care too much for the cinematography of the battle scenes. It was too jolty and close up.NEGATIVE
The most negative element of the movie were the Seal People. They're a native tribe that aren't exactly noble or moral. They're skin is dyed, and they have creepy tooth necklaces around their necks. Very flashy and stylist, apparently. While Marcus and Esca stayed with them, the Seal People had a ceremony to honor their young men who just became warriors. The Seal People get drunk with a sort of drug, flop around, and it just kind of disturbing to watch. The scene is over before long, though.GOOD
There is no sexual content in the movie, and minimal language. Like less than ten words. "Bloody" is used, I remember. When you think about it, "bloody" is a total English phrase. I doubt the Romans used it. :PI really liked the message of honor and valor in the movie. Marcus, Esca, and some of the other characters showed great character. The movie itself is about honor, about getting the Eagle of the Ninth Legion back.
The characters:
Marcus: You like him from start to finish. There is nothing negative about him, and he is very honorable. During Esca's "fight" in the beginning, he encouraged everyone to "get your thumbs up". For that reason, Esca lived.
Esca: He's my favorite character out of the ENTIRE movie. He's so totally awesome. He's noble, courageous, smart, and he's Jamie Bell. :) At the end, when Marcus told him to leave him, he refused to budge. He wanted to stay till the end. (SPOILER) After Marcus released him from his slavery, Esca ran for help, bringing back the Ninth Legion in the nick of time.
All in all, I'd give this movie a solid 4 out of 5 stars. :)
It looks, good. I ask a question to make you think. :) Is it more honorable to let them have the shiny eagle, or go kill em for it? I have not seen the movie, and it looks entertaining to be sure, but what is honor, and how does one go about getting it?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review!! I think it gives me a better understanding of the movie!!! :D
